Teaching Philosophy

Tree loves to teach music with an open mind and tailor lessons to the interests and strengths of his students. He believes that music should be enjoyable for anyone, so in addition to covering technical and theoretical basics, his lessons feature individualized repertoire and a great deal of listening.

Teaching Experience

In addition to maintaining a studio of private students of all ages, Tree has worked as a Teaching Assistant in the Harvard University Music Department, where he received a certificate for outstanding teaching. He has also worked in New York City public schools with Harmony Program, conducted masterclasses at the Panama Jazz Festival, and coached ensembles at Western Oregon University’s Jazz Camp. Outside of music, he has also worked as an academic writing tutor. He holds degrees from Harvard University and the New England Conservatory of Music.
