Teaching Philosophy

Sami believes in a three pointed approach to singing; helping her students to become technical masters of their voices, competent musicians, and most importantly, artists. She gets to know the interests, abilities and perspective of each unique student, and tailors each lesson to helping them achieve their goals through this lens. Generally speaking, this translates to three portions within each lesson: tailored vocal exercises to warm up, challenge and strengthen the voice, followed by ear training, music theory and/or sight reading, and finally, repertoire; working through full pieces, or for some, songwriting.

Teaching Experience

Sami is a professional vocalist and voice teacher with over ten years of teaching experience. With a bachelors in Vocal Jazz Performance from the New England Conservatory, Sami teaches private voice lessons out of her in-home studio in East Flatbush. She has also collaborated widely with various teaching organizations, including her current work as a Voice and Piano instructor at the School of Rock in Manhattan, as a Teaching Fellow for international teaching partnership Teach to Learn, and as head of the Vocal program at the Institute for Collaborative Education. Sami has experience working with children as young as 7 and adults as old as 65, beginners and professional musicians, those interested in Jazz, RnB/Pop (including belting), Musical Theater, Classical, and even a bit of screaming.
