Teaching Philosophy

Katie offers a warm and supportive learning environment for students at any level. Using a song based approach, students learn instrument technique and relevant music theory through engaging with songs they love. Katie works to connect the musical experience back to the body, and when appropriate, provides an intellectual framework for technique, theory and repertoire. She believes that music education can help students find agency in creative expression and exploration.

Teaching Experience

Katie holds a Bachelor’s degree from the New England Conservatory. Katie started offering private lessons in Boston in 2015, and has since gone on to lead workshops and ensembles to students of all ages. In addition to her private studio, Katie has taught through the Jalopy School of Music (Brooklyn), the Bantam School of Music (Brooklyn), Blue Balloon (Brooklyn), SUNY New Paltz, and has consistently been on the music staff at Ashokan Western & Swing Week, Pinewoods Harmony of Song and Dance, Miles of Music and the Dance Flurry.
